| Legal Take on the Rust dismissal: Prior to trial the judge had ordered that Baldwin could not be tried in his role as a producer, only as an actor. This case would have had massive implications regarding the responsibilities that actors have to ensure any weapon they use on set is safe. While putting that responsibility on actors may be a bridge too far, the Rust shooting definitely demonstrates that more attention needs to be given to safety standards on set. Consideration of using replica weapons where reasonable not only ensures a safer set but also decreases production and insurance costs.
On another note, the State of New Mexico preliminarily denied Rust's application for tax incentive funds. Yikes. |
